Financial Readiness Common Military Training

Soldiers will face financial changes in their military career. Financial literacy training sets the stage for sustained financial well-being and resilience through those challenges. That’s why Soldiers receive mandatory financial training at career milestones including:

  • Entry to service
  • Initial Entry Training
  • Arrival at your first duty station
  • Vesting in TSP
  • Receipt of PCS orders
  • Deployment
  • Marriage 
  • Birth or adoption of the first child
  • Life challenges, including divorce or disabling condition
  • Eligibility for continuation pay
  • Leadership training
  • Transition (retirement/ETS/medical discharge)

  • Thrift Savings Plan: A Federal Government-sponsored long-term retirement savings and investment plan, available for both Federal civilian employees and members of the uniformed services.
  • Office of Financial Readiness: The Office of Financial Readiness, in collaboration with the services, federal partners and non-federal entities, provides programs, policy, education, advocacy and program oversight required for service members and Families to achieve personal financial readiness in support of mission readiness.
