How Does It Work? 

How to get your VAT refund: 

1. Shop as Usual:  Pay the full price, including VAT, for your purchases at local German stores. 

2. Use the App:  Take photos of your receipts and upload them in the Remonon App. 

3. Get Your Refund:  At the end of the month, Remonon sends you a summary invoice and reimburses the VAT you paid onto your American and German bank account, minus a small processing fee. 

How to get your account set up: 

1. Visit the Tax Relief Office:  Head to the USAG Stuttgart VAT Office located in Building 2915, 3rd Floor, on Panzer Kaserne. 

2. Get Your IVN Number:  The staff will register you and provide your unique IVN number needed for the app. 

3. Pick Up Your VAT Forms:  You will need one NF-1 form per month for $10, which you can get from the VAT office.  

4. Download the Remonon App and set up your account (the VAT Office will provide detailed step-by-step instructions on how to do it). 

What You Need to Know 

How to ensure your eligibility for the refund:

• Single purchase must not exceed €250 (including VAT), per vendor, per day. 

• Total monthly purchases must be less than €2,500 (before VAT). 

• All purchases must be made within Germany. 

• All purchases must be made using a credit card, no cash receipts are accepted. 

• Receipts must not include rationed items like liquor, tobacco and coffee.  

• You must obtain a VAT form before you make eligible purchases.

  • For example, to receive VAT back for all purchases made in December, you must get a VAT form on or before December 1.
