The Imperial Castle is a stone testimony to the medieval power of emperors and kings who resided there during their visits. The castle merges almost seamlessly into the city fortifications. With its towers, battlements and expansive bastions, the city wall was not only used for defense, but also offered space for the staging of baroque fireworks and was the location of an observatory of international standing.
