MWR Tour: Famous Aescher Guesthouse

Visit this famous landmark, highlighted on the cover of a National Geographic book!

Note: This event has already passed.

Maybe you've seen that one wooden house built into the side of the mountain on the cover of the National Geographic book. It's the Aescher Guesthouse in Switzerland, and it's been welcoming hikers and tourists since the mid-19th century. That amount of exposure really made the place go viral, and nowadays, it's one of the best-known destinations in Switzerland. If you want to visit this magical place but you're not sure where to start, you've definitely come to the right place.

You have the option, as a non-hiker, to ride the gondola into the Appenzelle Mountains both ways and reach the mountain hut on the rocky side of the cliff easily, and without much effort. The Wildkirchli caves were used as living spaces in ancient times and you will walk past them with this "non-hiking" way to reach the hut.

Second option omits Schafler hut, passing by caves, Aescher hut, and then straight down to a beautiful lake with a 4 mile downhill hike, taking around 2-3 hours.

Feel free to stop by our office and take a look at the hiking routes!
