“Eagle’s Nest” (Kehlsteinhaus) was built as a teahouse for Adolf Hitler on Kehlstein Mountain at an elevation of 6,017 ft / 1,834m for his 50th birthday. From the Eagle’s Nest, where most people just go back down, we will do a long via ferrata that summits the huge peak behind it called Hoher Göll! Catch the first bus that takes you to the tunnel and infamous golden elevator Hitler used to bring up his guests. After looking around and reading all the informational signs about the history of Hitler’s tea house and eating a delicious cheese and ham pretzel to fuel what was to come, embark on our epic journey.

The Via-Ferrata is a mix of secured and unsecured sections, meaning there is not always a steel cable to clip into, so it is a great mixture of climbing and rock scrambling the whole way to the last steep ascent to the summit. Take a Via-Ferrata back down a different narrow ridge that will lead us to what you will be looking forward to - the mountain hut Purtschellerhaus! This refuel pit stop is just what you’ll need. After some Kaiserschmarrn and Speckbrot head out for the final two hours of hiking back to the car in the beautiful golden hour light.

Ride a local bus to the picture-book village of Berchtesgaden, Germany. The alpine setting
is gorgeous and the history is fascinating, so it's definitely worth the trip. Stop at one of the many cafes with outdoor seating to enjoy Bavarian specialties and beer, or Kaffee und Kuchen (pastries). Wind down your day with a stroll down the quiet streets and a view of the beautiful mountains, to include the Eagle’s Nest and the mountain you have just summited. What a perfect way to end the evening after your epic journey.

Ever wanted to rock climb but don't want to bother with belay techniques or rope knots? Via-ferrata in Italian or Klettersteig in German is an activity that originated in Italy and consists of a trail along a rock face. It combines hiking and climbing, so you tend to move upwards, using ramps, ladders, bridges, beams, etc. You’ve probably understood that this is a vertical activity! Don’t worry, though, you are attached with a lifeline, so this is a safe adventure. The aim is simple: to get to some unusual viewpoints. How does it work? This via Ferrata is freely accessible. The fitness level for this one is a medium to high fitness level. The via ferrata portions are long and so is the hike off the mountain. Expect 8-9 hours of action clipped on, hiking, and climbing over boulders. Pull your own body weight and have flexibility to climb up in some parts. You may overcome a small fear of heights, but anyone with a true fear should not join. You should also be comfortable climbing through uneven surfaces to approach the entrance and exit of the climb. Join us on this fun and unique experience only Europe offers with fun and secure lines while enjoying the outdoors without worries of falling since you're always attached on the hike!
