The Murph Challenge

#
Note: This event has already passed.

Join us this Memorial Day weekend, May 29 – 31, as we pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty by completing the Murph Challenge. The Memorial Day Murph honors Navy Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a Navy SEAL who lost his life in action during a fierce firefight in Afghanistan and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, becoming the first Navy sailor to earn the highest US military decoration since the Vietnam War.

Alongside Murphy on that fateful day, were Navy SEALS Matthew Axelson, Danny Dietz and Marcus Luttrell. Only Luttrell survived in what became – at the time - the largest loss of life to US forces since the start of the invasion.  Sixteen other Service Members were killed that day when their helicopter was shot down while attempting to rescue Murphy and his teammates.

The Murph Challenge consists of:

  • A one-mile run
  • 100 pull-ups
  • 200 push-ups
  • 300 air squats
  • and another one-mile run

The goal is to complete the challenge within an hour. If you want to pay tribute, but are not able to do the full challenge, the exercise can be scaled with modifications. The pull-ups, push-ups and squats can be partitioned as needed. Optionally, the challenge can be completed while wearing a 20-lb weighted vest or body armor. Most importantly, honor the memory of the fallen and remember their sacrifice.
