The Kelley Arts and Crafts, also known as the woodshop, is having an open house. Community members are invited to check out the facility, enjoy some refreshments, and catch the wood milling event.

What's milling? Milling is the process of taking a log and turning it into planks with a mobile sawing machine. The planks are then dried for 8 to 10 month before they can be used for wood projects. The logs at the event are from Belleau Wood Battle Monument and they are called "witness trees", which means they were growing on the site at the time of the Battle of Belleau Wood (WWI), June 1 - 26, 1918, between the US 2nd and 3rd Marine Divisions. The battle is important for many reason but has special significance to US Marines. These "witness trees" often have shrapnel and scorch marks from the battle.
