A smash comedy hit in London and New York, this much-revived classic concerns fussy, cantankerous novelist Charles Condomine, who has remarried but finds himself haunted (literally) by the ghost of his late first wife, Elvira. Clever, insistent, and well aware of Charles' shortcomings, Elvira is called up by a visiting “happy medium,” the eccentric and flighty Madame Arcati. As everyone's personalities clash, Charles’ current wife, Ruth, is accidentally killed. She “passes over” and joins Elvira, allowing the two “blithe spirits” to haunt the hapless Charles into comical perpetuity.

“A highly efficient laugh machine... Can still keep an audience in a state of tickled contentment.” – Ben Brantley, The New York Times

The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world's most beloved musical. When a postulant proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon, they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain's immediate service in their navy. The family's narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre.

LOVE LETTERS

Authors:  A.R.GURNEY

Production Details: A unique and imaginative theatre piece in which two affluent persons, who were childhood friends, tell the story through their lifelong correspondence.  This contact begins with birthday party thank-you notes and summer camp postcards.  Romantically attached, they continue to exchange letters throughout their school years.  While he is at war, she marries, but their attachment remains strong, and the contact continues.  He is eventually elected to the U.S Senate, while her marriage is in tatters - she drinks more than she should and is estranged from her children.  Eventually they become involved in a brief affair, but it is really too late for both of them.  However, his last letter, written to her mother after her untimely death, makes it eloquently clear how much they really meant, and gave to, each other over the years – physically apart, perhaps, but spiritually as close as only true lovers can be.

This celebration of the mating game takes on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum know as “the relationship.” Through sketches and songs, the production explores the journey from dating and waiting to love and marriage, and later reveals the agonies and triumphs of in-laws and newborns, trips in the family car and pick-up techniques of the geriatric set. This hilarious revue pays tribute to those who have loved and lost, to those who have fallen on their face at the portal of romance, to those who have dared to ask, “Say, what are you doing Saturday night?”

“If this show were a blind date, you'd feel relieved, grateful and pleasantly surprised.” – Newsday
